SARATOGA
TOURNY
JANUARY 9 - Senior Nick Haluska and Sophomore Josh Loguidice lead
Guilderland to a 4th place finish at the Saratoga Tournament this past
weekend. Six Dutchmen earned place-finishes to help contribute to
the team's highest finish of the season.
Haluska dropped a narrow 2-0 lost to Queensbury's John Linendoll in the
145 lb finals, while Loguidice lost 7-3 to Saratoga's Richard Schrade.
It was the first individual finals appearance for each wrestler this
season.
106 lb Sophomore Michael Lainhart took 3rd place, pinning his opponent
from Bethlehem in the Consolation Finals. John Stuto took home
fourth place honors at 113 lbs, picking up valuable team points in the
process. Junior Jesse Futia placed 3rd at 160 lbs, defeating
Ballston Spa's AJ Spaniccia, 7-3. Senior Mike McGill narrowly
missed out on a championship title at 220 lbs, losing 2 close matches
(one in overtime) to finish at 4th place. Finally, Jesse Mesick
captured third place in a loaded Heavyweight weight class, with a fall
midway through the 2nd period in the Consolation Finals.
It should also be noted that Guilderland narrowly missed out on 3rd
place, behind host-team Saratoga, who climbed ahead late in the
tournament. Congratulations to all wrestlers.
