KEN HAINES MEMORIAL

DECEMBER 28 - Guilderland traveled to Oswego State for the annual Ken Haines Memorial Tournament, hosted by Fulton Wrestling.  The Dutchmen improved on their position from last season, finishing tenth, and placing several in the top 8.  Sophomore Michael Lainhart represented the team as the lone finalist of the two-day tournament, placing second to Fulton's Thomas Hill.  Lainhart defeated the number one seeded wrestler in the quarter-finals to earn his spot in the finals.
Senior Jesse Mesick earned the Dutchmen Award for the event, taking third place and losing only to Fairport's eventual champion, Dakota Taylor.  Mesick battled back to the consolation finals and gutted out a hard-fought 4-3 win over Fulton's Brennan Roberge that came down to the final second.
Nick Haluska placed fifth at the event, while co-captain Jesse Futia placed sixth.  Mike McGill,  Matt Jones and Josh Loguidice were the remaining Dutchmen to earn place finishes, all taking eighth.
