AVERILL PARK

JANUARY 4 - Guilderland outlasts Suburban Council rival, Averill Park, 36-34, on Alumni Night, winning 8 of 14 matches.
The Dutchmen got off to a slow start, dropping the first three matches and falling to a 0-18 deficit.  However, Nick Haluska got points on the board for the team with his 2nd period technical fall at 145 lbs.  The Warriors responded with a decision win at 152, but Guilderland would answer with 7 straight wins, starting with Jesse Futia at 160.  Futia scored a 3rd period fall that brought the home team within ten, and was followed with a shoestring win by Ryan Harris at 170.  Harris battled to an 8-7 win to leave the Dutchmen only 7 points behind in the team score.
Josh Lamb earned his first ever DUTCHMEN AWARD at 182, with an 8-4 win.  Lamb fought hard to earn the victory, his first as a Varsity competitor.  Congratulations, Josh!
A Guilderland forfeit at 195 did not slow the home team down, as Mike McGill kept the ball rolling with a 2nd period fall.  Heavyweight Jesse Mesick's 1st period fall put Guilderland in the lead for the first time, late in the evening, as they moved ahead 29-27 in the team score.  At 99 lbs, Josh Logiudice scored a 9-0 major decision to put the team ahead by six heading into the home stretch.  Michael Lainhart, at 106, secured a much-needed 4-3 decision over his opponent, to provide buffer points in the team score.  The visitors closed the night with two victories of their own, but it was not enough as the Dutchmen were victorious, 36-34, in what proved to be a very exciting home meet.  Congratulations to all wrestlers, who put together an excellent team effort.
